With Saul alone, she'd never think anything like that, she wouldn't worry about it all being for nothing. But it's not just Saul, and the more time passes the more she wonders why she's even trying with Dick, when he won't listen to a word she says, when it seems like he doesn't care how much he hurts or worries her.
She doesn't trust herself not to choke on any words she might try, so she just kisses him properly, instead, slow and careful as she guides his hands to her waist before winding her arms around his shoulders.]

[He doesn't expect her to say anything; he just waits for whatever's coming next, so he's pleased to see it's such an encouraging kiss.
(Not that he expected something else, but one never knows.)
His hands settle on her hips at first, but then he decides to wrap his arms around her instead, pulling her flush against him. They probably should move, but really, he just wants to keep kissing her like this. Nothing more, not right now.]
Pretty sure he wants to punch me on instinct anyway.
[Can she argue with that?
It's a good point, though, the one she's making, so he reluctantly releases his hold on her save for his grip on one of her hands and gestures for her to lead the way elsewhere.
[She's not actually so sure about that, but she doesn't really want to think about that all too much right now.
So she uses her free hand to scoop up Mike - she's not allowed to ruin the flowers - before leading Saul into their bedroom and closing the door. Now she can kiss him without worrying about either of the kids.]

As far as Dick is concerned, he never knows.
But there's only so much skin he can kiss when she's still dressed and everything, so he breaks away to flash her a smile.]
Maybe.

[But she doesn't actually make a move, and because she has no idea what to say or do, she adds:]
You know you're being weird, right?
[just to make sure.]

[What's so weird about showing his girlfriend some tender loving care, huh?
He leans in, again, to bump noses with her.
It's not weird...!]
no subject
[She scrunches her nose, in part for his weirdness, but also at her apparent inability to explain why this is weird.]

[You're losing him, Steph.
He's still got a hold of her hands, so he twists their fingers together, still grinning.]
This?
no subject
[She looks down at their hands, then back at him.]
And the flowers. And the kissing.
[you know. this.]
no subject
[Because he thinks that's weird, but judging by the warm, kidding smile on his face, it's not a bad sort of weird.
He wants to kiss her again.
Instead, he pauses, trying on a slightly more serious look.]
If this is overkill, Steph, I'll dial it back.

[Since it's really weird, and she doesn't know if it's bad or good, but she can't change it.]
No, it's fine, it's-- nice. [It's weird, but she doesn't say that again, just leans in to kiss his cheek.] I'm just... you know.
[Not good with this sorta thing.]
no subject
[He's not, either. Not really. Which is why the kiss makes him duck his head, laughing again.]
I thought you might be in need of a little reminder. Y'know, with all the stress lately, and... everything.

[She manages to keep her tone light and plaful, despite the ache in her chest.
She misses Jesse, too.]
no subject
[She'd have to hit her head pretty hard to forget that. Or, you know, have a close encounter with Max again...
That's not a thought he wants to have.
Here's that kiss, finally, pressed lightly to her chin.]
More like... that you're not just doing this all for nothing.

I'm pretty sure Dick will just punch you on instinct if he catches us kissing.
[which is - kind of fair.]

To the bedroom, he's guessing.]
