[it's something peter's pretty much come to terms with. but he's certainly not the only one in the position of being the only of their kind amongst the transports, and thus in this world. if anything, he counts himself lucky that it's not obvious for him like it is for the non-humans.]
Huh. Guess that fits with her name. What languages do you know?
The only one I'm properly fluent in is Spanish, but I can make it throught conversations in French, Russian, Chinese, and Italian. Most of 'em I know 'cause of the criminals we deal with back home, but I had to brush up on my Russian and French here. [a beat] Oh, and ASL, I'm actually pretty good at that now, thanks to Atlas.
[Even after she realized he could speak, she kept practicing her sign language because it clearly made Donny uncomfortable to speak while he was being Atlas.]
One of the superheroes floating around. [Donny is gone, actually, and it seems like he sort of loosened up on the secret ID, but she'll still be careful.] Got a whole Greek theme going on, tosses fire around, doesn't talk much.
[She should probably stop holding onto Peter now that the urge to burst into tears has passed, but she's too comfortable.]
gonna need a little more than a number, unless you're staying with the new initiative
did i ever tell you i know a demigod? i know it's not the same as what you're dealing with, but i've seen all sorts of shit. i'm never gonna be freaked out by you.
Somebody did a number on him. Or a bunch of somebodies, whatever. People can be dicks.
[there's no particular sympathy in the statement, just understanding. peter doesn't feel sorry for donny, but he does kinda get why he's the way he is.]
[She knows the answer to that, but it's not her place to talk about it, especially not when she always seemed to make things worse whenever she talked to Donny about family.]
I think the whole world kinda did a number on him.
[Which is true, as well.
But she doesn't really want to talk about Donny, and she thinks she might've overstayed her welcome with the hug, so she draws back with a wry smile.]
And I think I promised you tea that never happened.
[She doesn't even remember hearing the kettle boil.]
Also, he may be hellbent on making her blush. What of it?]
Consider these — [He says, reaching over to break one of the daisies free from its stem so he can tuck it in Steph's hair (ignoring Mike and the way she bats at his hand in the process),] A small gesture of thanks.
[No goddammit she doesn't have any smartass response to that, which means she just gives an awkward little laugh and ducks her head once the flower is in her hair.]
[This, of course, is followed by the light touch of his lips against her knuckles, one by one.
Yes, he's still devastated by Jesse's death. Yes, he's still unhappy with Ahiru for scaring them the way she did. Yes, he still wants to yell at Dick for making Steph worry constantly.
But this is what brought the two of them together in the first place, isn't it? Every little disaster draws them closer to each other — and just when he thinks he can't possibly love her more, it happens anyway.
Saul can't help the way she makes him happy in spite of everything. He doesn't want to, either.]
[This is worse than when he bought her that damn book of poetry. She makes a face at him because she doesn't know what else to do, because she can't stop the fact she's blushing, but at least she can make sure she doesn't look too flustered by the attention.]
Okay, okay, I get the point. [the point is that Saul is weird.] I love you, too.
But the point is that he loves her, yes. A lot. Also, the ocean is wet. And snow is cold. And Steph is beautiful. Getting the point isn't going to stop him, though; he continues on, kissing her fingers and hands and then her wrists, smiling stupidly all the while.]
[The combination of the kisses and his silence make her feel a little nervous. Not worried, it's just - strange, when he goes quiet.]
Should I be getting comfortable, if you're planning to keep doing that?
[Kissing her, she means, since it seems like he's being thorough about the whole thing, and they probably shouldn't stand in the living room while he's doing that.]
